Crystal Francois: Communication Specialist

Crystal is excited to join the Discovery Montessori Academy team for her second year as the school’s Communication Specialist.
A native of Pennsylvania, Crystal started her career working with children fifteen years ago at the Children’s Museum Pittsburgh where she developed programs for the museum and worked directly with school and Girl Scout groups.
Since then, Crystal has earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and a Master of Science Degree in Education from Walden University.  She has worked in many school environments both teaching and leading.  Crystal has experience teaching children from grades kindergarten through sixth grade.  Since moving to Atlanta in 2005, she has taught fourth grade at Sophia Academy (a private school for children with learning differences); taught second and fourth grade at Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School; worked at Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School as the Math Specialist and Academic Assistant Teacher for four years (teaching students with math challenges in 1st-5th grades, training and collaborating with classroom teachers, assisting with the Special Education testing and qualification process); and taught first and second grade students receiving services through the Department of Special Education at Charles R. Drew Charter School in Atlanta.

Outside of the classroom, Crystal is an active volunteer as a Girl Scout troop leader and member of her church’s children’s ministry team.

During her free time Crystal enjoys spending time with her husband Troy and daughter Alanah.  They love traveling together, often to Washington DC, Pennsylvania, or Florida to visit family.  She also enjoys completing small remodeling projects and gardening at her family’s home in East Point.
